Supervision for counsellors who work were most won’t go
Online Clinical Supervision for Counsellors and Social Workers – Australia
With Kellie Sheldon, Trauma and Sex Counsellor, Accredited EMDR Practitioner and Consultant in Training
There’s a particular kind of session that stays with you. Your client shares an experience you don’t quite know how to work with and it shakes your confidence.
That happens, our clients show up with stories we’ve never heard before, stories that stay with us long after the session ends. We carry them home without knowing quite what to do with it.
They might be okay talking about their trauma, they’ve probably been doing that for a while, but the moment sex comes up something shifts, shy parts appear. They shrink, like they’re twelve again, back in a body that was told this topic was not for them.
And if you’re honest with yourself, you probably do too.
That’s not a problem to fix, that’s just where we’re at, and it makes complete sense given nobody taught us how to sit in this space with any real confidence. The link between trauma and sex, between what happened to someone when they were little and what’s showing up in your room right now, it wasn’t in the curriculum and it’s barely in supervision.
So we do what we can and we hope it’s enough and we carry the rest home.
We go into the stuff most supervision skips – sex, intimacy, kink, complex trauma, parts work, the childhood history sitting under your clients presenting problem, and what shows up in you when you’re sitting with all of it.
Whether you’re working with EMDR, parts-based approaches, somatic frameworks, or simply doing deep relational and psychodynamic work, my supervision understands the clinical language you’re already working in. If sex, kink, sexual trauma, or ENM relationships are showing up in your room, this is the supervision session you would bring it to.
Most supervisors…
… know trauma or they know sex. Very few know both, and fewer still understand that for most of your clients they were never two separate things. That’s the gap my supervision sits in.
Groups or individual?
Supervision groups run monthly, online, capped at four participants each, because that’s what it takes to go deep. Each group runs for six months as a closed cohort, so the people in the room stay consistent and the trust builds over time.
Current group: Now taking expressions of interest for July 10th start, Thursdays 9–11am AWST, $660 inc GST for the six months.
Next group: Opening August 2026, dependent on participants. Register your interest now to secure your place.
Individual clinical supervision is available at $185 inc GST per hour, by enquiry. Sessions are online and available to counsellors and other and therapists across Australia.
Individual EMDR consultation is available now for practitioners wanting clinical support with EMDR cases. Please note these sessions do not count toward EMDRAA accreditation hours.
Not sure if this is for you? Email anyway, worst case we point you in the right direction.
What you can bring
- The session you’ve been replaying in your head since Tuesday
- The client presentation you’ve never seen and you don’t know how to hold
- The moment your own stuff shows up in the room and you’re not sure what to do with that
- The case that’s clinically complex and personally confronting at the same time
- The question about sex, kink, or your client’s dynamic that you haven’t felt safe asking anyone else
- Your case can feel like a jumbled mess, lets work through it together so you can see it more clearly
Is this for you?
If any of this sounds like your caseload, you’re probably in the right place:
- Counsellors seeking ACA-aligned supervision
- Counsellors working with clients around sexuality, kink, ENM, or sexual trauma who want a supervisor who gets it
- Counsellors supporting clients whose trauma started early and runs deep
- Therapists working with EMDR or parts-based approaches – please note that as an EMDR Consultant in Training, consultation hours with me do not count toward EMDRAA accreditation requirements, but are perfectly fine for general consultation and clinical support.
- Counsellors in private practice who want supervision that understands the reality of running your own practice
- Counsellors supporting clients with dissociation (including DID), attachment trauma, or complex developmental histories.
My supervision training is through Step Up, a recognised clinical supervision program. I am a clinical member with PACFA and an accredited EMDR practitioner with EMDRAA.
If you’re a counsellor looking for a supervisor who understands trauma work, and who values relational depth over box-ticking, you’re likely in the right place.
If you’re unsure whether this is the right supervision for you, you’re welcome to reach out.

Small group supervision offers shared thinking, learning, and relational connection. Groups are intentionally small (maximum of 4 practitioners/participants per group) to allow depth, safety, and meaningful reflection.
This form of group clinical supervision supports shared learning while still honouring the complexity of individual client work. It’s ideal if you value collaborative learning, reflective dialogue, and connection with a community of other practitioners navigating similar experiences.
