Kellie Sheldon

Principal Clinical Counsellor, Accredited EMDR practitioner & Clinical Supervisor

MIDLAND OFFICE - TUESDAY TO THURSDAY, EVERY SECOND MONDAY ONLINE

Individuals Only

Therapy is one of the few places you don’t have to have it all together. Most of the women I work with already understand their story, sometimes down to the smallest detail. What hasn’t shifted is how it still lives in their body, daily lives, and relationships. I work one-on-one to help close that gap, one session at a time.

How I Work

You won’t need to retell your whole story for this to work. I follow what the session needs rather than a fixed structure (with the exception of EMDR), so some sessions are direct and some flow organically. I’ve learnt if I try to plan one out in advance, it usually goes off track, your nervous system takes you were you need to go.  Sometimes we need to talk about difficult things, and they can be hard to say.  There is no pressure to go where you are not ready to, we go at your pace.

Clinicians who’ve referred clients to me describe the sessions as feeling held rather than managed. That’s not an accident, it’s what I’m aiming for every time.

Word from Kellie

It’s so nice to see you here.

I know what a struggle it is to make the first step or even to admit to yourself that you might need some help. It is not easy. I’ve shown up to counselling sessions hiding in oversized jumpers with my head fully covered in a hoodie because when the inside of you feels awful, the outside shows it. When you are nervous about a topic, you dance around it.

I’ve sat in front of a therapist who was more interested in my story because it intrigued him more than helping me. I’ve spoken about my sex life to a counsellor and watched her become uncomfortable. I’ve had to make up stories with health professionals because I wasn’t sure they would understand and felt judged.

I’ve tried to talk to friends about my life, my traumas, about my relationships and my journey from ‘vanilla’ to ‘kinky’ – some got it, some didn’t. It’s such a weird line to walk on these days.

This is why it matters to me that you don’t filter your words. You, your partners and your community deserve therapists who you can be honest with – and this is speaking from experience.

There is nothing worse than being in a room where you need to hide yourself.

We were taught what we want or need isn’t for us – especially when it came to sex. Some adults decided it was for them to decide what was ours to keep and what was ours to take away.

And now? Now we are no different, we still hide our needs by fawning or freezing, by not being able to express ourselves daily let alone in the bedroom.

This is why YOU need to take your life back – to live, to thrive, to experience joy and all the other emotions. Your trauma does not need to run your life anymore.

I will be honest with you, this work is difficult. Sometimes you will want to hide. You will want to stay in feelings you’re used to, because that’s easier than feeling new ones. Anger allows an outlet. Sadness allows you to hide. But I have seen breakthroughs, tears and words clients have been holding back for years, because they finally felt safe enough to let them out.
